We're part of it - Are Sinti & Roma discriminated?

Wir gehören dazu

2016 - Deutschland

Synopsis:

Between six and twelve million members of the Sinti and Roma ethnic groups live according to rough estimates in Europe. Persecution, discrimination and deprivation have always been partof their 600-year old history in various European countries. During the Nazi era, about 500,000 Sinti and Roma fell victim to the Holocaust.

Till this day the situation of the Sinti and Roma in many regions of Europe is precarious. They suffer from a reality of life that promotes poverty, prejudice and anti-Gypsy resentments. Especially in Southeastern Europe, Roma often live on the margins of society. But even in Germany there are still social disadvantages.

Our film is a double portrait of a Sintezza and a Romni. Two women living in today's Germany, who themselves had to experience discrimination frequently- and who have a clear goal: The unequal treatment must be overcome once and for all.
