Synopsis:

Viele Menschen in Europa frage sich weshalb die Terroranschläge immer wieder Frankreich treffen. Laut Experten ist einer der Gründe die extreme Spaltung in Frankreichs Gesellschaft. Es gibt eine große Kluft zwischen arm und reich und zwischen Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund und Menschen ohne. In den Banlieues (Außenvierteln) der Großstädte leben die Menschen völlig ausgegrenzt in einer Parallelwelt. Ein hoher Anteil an Arbeitslosen, Sozialhilfeempfängern und Immigranten prägen das Bild der Viertel. Der Staat hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten versagt diesen Menschen eine Perspektive zu bieten. Die Jugendarbeitslosenquote liegt bei etwa zwanzig Prozent und bei Jugendlichen mit Migrationshintergrund noch viel höher. Es stauen sich Aggressionen und viel Frust an, doch einige junge Menschen nehmen ihr Schicksal in die Hand und versuchen dem tristen Alltag zu entkommen.

In keiner europäischen Metropole ist das soziale Gefälle so groß wie in Marseille. Der Film taucht ein in "La Castellane" und "La Bricarde - zwei bekannte Ghettos der Stadt - und gibt filmisch die Atmosphäre wieder, die momentan dort herrscht.

Many people in Europe wonder why the terrorist attacks repeatedly hit France. According to experts, one of the reasons is the extreme division in French society. There is a big gap between rich and poor and between people with a migrant background and people without. In the banlieues (outer districts) of the big cities, people live completely marginalized in a parallel world. A high proportion of the unemployed, welfare recipients and immigrants shape the image of the neighborhoods. The state has failed in recent decades to offer these people a perspective. In no European metropolis is the social gradient as high as in Marseille. The youth unemployment rate is around twenty percent, and among young people with a migrant background much higher. Aggression and frustration accumulate, but some young people take their fate in their own hands and try to escape the dreary everyday life.
The film immerses itself into "La Castellane" and "La Bricarde - two well-known ghettos of the city - and cinematically reflects the atmosphere that currently prevails there.
